Perfectly cooked wild rice is tender but not entirely opened up, when wild rice is overcooked it almost “explodes” into white long grains and turns mushy,  cooking times may vary with one package to another it will depend on how the rice is processed meaning on how much of the grain has been dried, the following method is how I cook my wild rice

Wild rice is very dirty so you must make certain to wash very well under hot water before using to remove the dust and foreign particles

Yield 2 cups cooked

Ingredients:

2/3 cup wild rice

2-1/2 cups water

1/2 to 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

Place the wild rice in a strainer and run under hot water until the water runs clear.

In a medium saucepan bring the water and salt to a boil.

Add in rice and stir.

Reduce heat to low, cover with a tight-fitting lid and simmer for 30-40 minutes or until tender with no stirring (the rice should be tender but not curled or mushy).
