Sloppy Joes
Make certain that the beef mixture is well browned this may take about 12-15 minutes to brown the meat, this takes about 1-1/2 hours to cook and even tastes better the next day so I suggest to make this a day or two in advance
For spicy use spicy Italian sausages and add in a seeded and finely chopped jalapeno pepper when browning the meat
Serve on toasted garlic buns
Servings 8
INGREDIENTS:
1 pound ground beef
1 pound Italian sausage links, casings removed
1 large onion, chopped
1 medium green bell pepper, seeded sand chopped
6 large garlic cloves, minced (the more garlic, the better!)
crushed chili flakes (optional, add in for even more heat)
1 teaspoon paprika
2 cups crushed tomatoes (do not substitute tomato sauce)
1/3 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon white vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
1-1/2 tablespoons HP steak sauce
1 tablespoon beef bouillon granules
2 teaspoons seasoned salt, or to taste
fresh ground black pepper, to taste
tomato juice (only if needed)
toasted burger buns (spread cut side of buns with garlic butter before toasting)
INSTRUCTIONS:————————————————-
In a large skillet or Dutch oven cook the beef and Italain sause meat with onion and green bell pepper until no longer pink; drain fat.
Ad in garlic and chili flakes; continue cooking until the meat is lightly browned (about 12-15 minutes).
Add in next 10 ingredients; bring to a simmer over medium-high heat stirring constantly.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 1-1/2 hours stirring occasionally and seasoning with black pepper and more salt if needed (if you find that the mixture is to thick add in some tomato juice to thin).
Serve on toasted garlic buns.
