Hello and welcome to Kittencal’s Kitchen!
I’m a 50 something wife, mother and recipe developer, I also have an extreme love for cats, not to mention food also…
My motto is if you can eat it, you can make it!…
Many of you know me as Kittencal from Food.com (formally Recipezaar) …
Just in case you haven’t quite got enough of me yet, this is where you will find the best of the best such as my apple pie...flaky pie pastry… lasagna and cheescake and many more of my self developed recipes, also my all-time favorite recipes many going back over 35 years.
This is not a fancy site filled with lots of ads and color and you will not find any fancy photos of me or a run-down of what I have done in the past week this is a cooking site with only recipes, my blog was developed because of hundreds of requests over the years and only features my favorite tried and true recipes.
My site is dedicated to recipes with ingredients that are easily found in your grocery store, no fancy ingredients, just basic everyday cooking recipes that are easy to follow even for the beginner cook!
KittencalsKitchen is a blog or personal website created and maintained by me, unlike most of the large sites that feature thousands of submitted recipes this is my own personal web site with only my recipes all tested and made by me first, I do not post any recipes here before I feel they are worthy to be posted.
Thank you to the hundreds of wonderful people who have taken the time to post their wonderful comments on the site not to mention the hundreds of emails I have received, I have read each and every post and truly appreciate your comments and compliments, you can be certain that I will continue with only the very best recipes for everyone to enjoy!
For those who are interested in receiving a copy of my cookbook that is currently still in development stage I have filed your names and will contact you when all if finalized….
*** Due the the sudden death of my husband my cookbook has been put on hold, so completion time will be delayed.
Thanks for stopping by…

Hi Kit
Awesome site. I love it. You have the best recipes…and I have tried many.
I loved the one that I tried on recipezaar…and I know that I will love the best of the best even better.
I will be back in the next few weeks to pick dishes to try…I am looking forward to it.
Kudos to you my friend…great job as always…BK
Hello.
So nice to find this website. Your recipes are the only ones I use on Recipezaar. My favorite so far is your Creamy Coleslaw! I make it all the time, thank you so much for the wonderful recipes! Please let me know when I can buy the book.
Hey, had some time to search. Love your website. Love your recipes! No matter where you post. Thank you for trying mine and reviewing. I look forward to your cookbook. I have been wrapped up in personal family problems, dialysis, sickness, raising a very “mouthy” teen, that I haven’t been able to go to recipezaar very often. I am sincerely sorry for the loss of your husband. I have family in Canada and US. We are 10 hours apart by vehicle. I am in a different world when I am in the kitchen, almost heaven. I love being creative and it sounds like you have a great job! CREATING!!! I had to postpone my cookbooks for awhile.
I want you to know that I was on the other side for awhileand if you want me to share with you, I will, it may help with your loss. God Bless and Love. Rhea
Hello Kitten! What a wonderful site!! Now I don’t have to pick through the Zaar to find your recipes! Just kidding! Seriously though, this is great,I love the categories, it’s so easy to find things I’m looking for.Great job Kitten, great site, great recipes! How could a cat-lover deliver anything else than puurrrrfect!! Way to go Kitten!!
I just wanted to say thank you for your wonderful recipes! I have never been very interested in cooking and was convinced I would never be a good cook, but thanks to your fool-proof recipes, my confidence is growing and I am learning to really enjoy cooking — which is rapidly becoming more important with three kids and a husband who LOVES to eat! I have told all my girlfriends about your recipes and who knows, maybe we’ll all be good cooks one day! Thanks again for sharing!!!
BTW, my daughter is now asking for your hush puppies a couple of times a week!
Hey Kit’s
It’s me cj@home from RZ, one of your biggest fans. Just wanted you to know that you are my all time favorite recipe provider and I haven’t had one of your recipes fail on me yet. I too have started my own recipe site but my theme is tried and true, not created by me. I’m sure several of your recipes will find their way in there. I also have a cat blog you might be interested in reading so stop by sometime k?
Keep up the great work. I hope you have me down for the cookbook when it’s ready ’cause I want one for sure.
Hugs
WOW! Kittencal (Carol!)
Just look at your amazing website!! Congrats on your success…you are a PROLIFIC cook and I am looking forward to preparing many more of your delicious recipes!

Congrats on your new website and cook book. Your love of cooking and your dedication to helping others is beyond great. Your recipes have never let me down and have became family favourites (not to mention friends and neighbours, lol). You have given so much of your time and energy to countless people from all walks of life. And you have managed to stay positive despite the recent hardships you faced. You deserve this not only because of your hard work but because you have become a friend to so many!!! Thank you and the best of luck for your future endeavours!!!
I’ve been a fan of Receipzaar for a long time and just luv your recipes, was so pleased when I found this site!
I first starting using your recipes on Recipezaar and was never disappointed. I look forward to trying more of your recipes in the future.
So last night I had some shrimp defrosted and very little of anything else in my house. I figured I could look on Recipezaar and pull up one of your recipes because A) you seem to have exactly what I’m looking for no matter what and B) your recipes never disappoint. When I logged on I saw that you had started this site so I immediately followed you! Just about then my husband walked in and saw the site and he said “Oh! We’re having a kittencal recipe tonight?! YUM!”. I had to laugh. Without even know what we were having he was already excited about dinner because it would be something you’ve come up with. So needless to say, how do I get on the list to get one of your cookbooks?
WOW! Your the greatest Kitten Cal, Love your recipes. Thanks for taking the stress off of coming up with delicious & impressive dishes for family & company. Please, Please, Please put me on your cookbook list. You are a true Blessing to sooooo many – Can’t wait to hear when your cookbook is ready.
Lovely website Kitten! I will enjoy popping by here!
Karen/FT/French Tart etc!!
Kitten, Thank you for making this wonderful website. I can’t wait to become more familiar with it and start using it more often.
Dear Kitten
Do you have a recipe for bread pudding with butterscotch/caramel sauce? It is something my hubby had at a new eatery and can’t stop raving. It would be great if you could help me whip up something that would make him forget everything else like you’ve done so many times before
Kitten – I have been using tons of your recipes off of Zaar, and was wondering on your brisket recipe if I can omit the bbq sauce while cooking and just serve it on the side after it’s done? Would I need to add any more water so the meat doesn’t get dry? This is my first brisket and I have a couple of guests who don’t like bbq sauce. Thank you!!!!
Good for you!!! I’m planning to visit often. Allison
I ran across a recipe of yours on recipezaar and noticed you had so many enthusiastic great comments that I just had to look at your other recipes. I am glad you posted this page on your recipezaar introduction, I am excited to get some new recipes from such an accomplished cook!
Hi Carol…its Jodie from #64…great site – I will try some of your yummy recipes!!!
I just love your recipe’s that you post on Zaar. It’s nice to see you branch out. Would love your cook-book when available.
I’ve used some of your recipes on Zaar and enjoyed them all. I’m so glad you have your own site, can’t wait to try some more of your great recipes.
Great site by the way but it sure would be wonderful if you added a recipe box where we could store some of your wonderful recipes that we do not want to lose.
Kitten,
I just wanted to say that I love all of your great recipes, and was wondering when your cookbook was coming out. Sign me up for sure! You are truly a doll for sharing all these great recipes with everyone! Keep doing what you do best!
Kitz: I am echoing Marcia’s request for a recipe box. Especially since my printer went on fritz, and $$$ tight here so will be awhile before I can get a new one. Recipe Box would be handy to save the recipes to so I don’t loose em before I can try them.

Hi Kittencal – I am sure I have told you this before but you are one of my favourite chefs on RecipeZaar. Anytime I am looking for a recipe and you have one posted in the category I’m searching yours is the one I head for. By the way we enjoyed your Prime Rib and Yorkshire Puddings last week. Great website. I am always in awe of someone who can create one.
Hey there Kittencal!
I’ve tried a few of your recipes on Recipezarr and omg, let tell you how yummy they all turn out! I think it’s so great that you are able to come up with this yourself and also, taking the time to share with others who also have a love for food. Thanks again for your wonderful recipes…I am looking forward to trying out more! My favs so far are the hamburger patties and scramble eggs…yum!!
Kittencal: I have used so many of your recipes from the recipezaar!!!I feel like I know you personally.
I am so glad that you are here!!! I will be interested in purchasing several of your cookbooks! They will be a great gift for my daughter and daughter-in-law!!!Plus, I collect cookbooks whenever I travel. I love to compare recipes…..usually the same dish with another name!!! I,too, love to cook!!!! Thank you for creating this new place of adventure……..
I am so excited for you! Kudos to you for this site and doing what you love. I have followed you through many of your recipes on Zaar, and in fact I am making your Fall-Apart-Tender Slow Roast Pork as I write this (via the crockpot instead of oven). This is one recipe I make over and over again, which is rare since I am always trying new recipes. Good luck to you and I’ll continue to check in for new ideas!
I am sooo happy to have found your website! I have been a fan of so many of your recipezaar recipes. I am SOOO excited to check out everything here and start making even more of your tasty treats. Thanks for sharing!
I thought that I was a good cook. You are a unbelievable cook. Do you have professional training. I would like to start a catering business but I’m afraid of the aspect of cooking large amounts of food and come out having it good. I work for two catering company’s and their food is just so so. I see them buying frozen crap and it is what it is. There is nothing like real good fresh cooked food. How can we take catering to the next level with your awesome recipes. Get back to me with your thoughts.
Best Regards,
John Butler
What a nice surprise to find your blog through a google search. I have used many of your recipes from zaar, and I have enjoyed each and every one. Your prime rib is a legendary favorite in our house now.
I can’t wait to poke around and see what you’ve got here – I’m sure I’ll find many gems. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Now I’m off to see if I can find a great Nestle Quick copycat recipe.
Rae
Hi Kitten,
So glad to have discovered that you started this website. I have many of your recipes in my file on RecipeZaar. You are a great cook and I am looking forward to your cookbook. That was such a good poem that you posted in memory of your husband. May God bless all your efforts and be your refuge and strength.
Hi Kitten,
Well I guess I can’t say it any better than those who have written before me to tell you how great you are and what terrific recipes you have provided my family and I. I have a hubby and 2 teenagers who love to eat and your recipes ALWAYS work exactly like you say they do. I thought I was already a decent cook until I tried your recipes. I LOVE THEM! Makes me want to get a T-shirt made that says “Kittencal Rocks the Kitchen”!!
Please, please, may I be on your list to let me know when your cookbook comes out? I’ll without a doubt buy it and probably one for my mom!!
Thanks so much for all you do!
Tara from TN
KittenCal – I am thrilled that you have started your own site and have a cookbook in the works. Your prime rib is DA BOMB and I went to Z looking for your recipes since Cdn Thanksgiving is coming up.
Do you have any tips for making gravy? I have never been able to get it right and unfortunately, to save my Turkey dinner, I have to buy the stuff in the jar. If you have a step-by-step layperson method for gravy, I’d love to see it!
Congrats on your website. I have subscribed!

I am really looking forward to your cookbook! I am a fan and I always trust your recipes to be nothing less than terrific, they always come out perfect and wonderful. Keep up the good work.
Taterbug!
Hi Kitten!
I’m thrilled that you have your own site. I have made several of your recipes from Recipezaar and all have been fantastic. Your site is a shortcut on my desktop. Thanks for sharing the recipes of your wonderful talent with food.

Kittencal,
it would be so helpful to people like me that are just learning to cook if you would do a tips and tricks section..like saying what potatoes are best for what recipes, how long garlic and onions last, etc. Also, I would love to know what your favorite recipes are..ones of your own and ones of other cooks. I enjoy your recipes so much!
Kitten
First, thank you for the beautiful poem in memory of your husband.
I too am widowed and it certainly expresses such beautiful sentiments.
When I found out you left Zaar and what happened, I have been so distressed because of your pain.
Second, when I need a recipe for something, I go to Z and your page (which is how I learned you were no longer there and about this site)
and check out your recipes first.
I just made the Parm Meatballs again this week and popped them in the freezer for when I’m ready to make the sauce.
You have provided me with many wonderful meals to share with others.
Please, make sure I’m on the list for your Cook Book.
Much love to you
Hi Kittencal. Better late than never, but congratulations on your web site. I’m also so sorry about your husband, but am glad you have your furbaby to keep you company. I just made another recipe of yours on Zaar – Tomatoes Provencale. It was very good, as I knew it would be. I will be visiting your site often. You go girl. Connie Lea (formerly Connie #8)
I’m so excited you have your own web site! You’ve been one of the handful of people I’ve watched on Recipezaar because your recipes are always so successful. In any case, if you’re a cat lover you’re a friend of mine. Congratulations! Vinca from Recipezaar
Carol~ We just had Kitten’s Chicken Scampi and it’s wonderful as are all the recipes I’ve tried of yours. Thank you for making me a better cook.
Kitten, I just discovered this site. Congratulations. I have tried many of your recipes from Recipezaar and they are all delicious. I will make sure I look over your whole web site and be coming back again and again to see what goodies you have developed. Thanks and God bless!
Hey Kit!!!! I just happened upon this site through your recipezaar recipe #145064. Getting ready to take my bird out of the brown sugar brine and roast it the kittencal way, LOL. So glad you have this site and that all is well with you. Still looking forward to your cookbook, and like one reviewer said earlier,”Do you give vacations at your house?” Just kidding. Thanks for all the best recipes and Happy Thanksgiving.
Everytime I make a new recipe, the first thing out of my wife’s mouth is, “Is this from Kittencal? This is SOOOO good!” Thanks for all of your recipe posts. And just wondering… how did you ever become a recipe developer?
Hello Kitten! I remember you from ‘Zaar! I just stumbled on your site & when I did I remembered you talking about it on “Z”. Ahh…better late than never is my motto-lol! I have added you to my favourites so I can check back often. Keep up the great work – awesome job. Kudos on creating your website!!!sweetpq-marcia
Hey Kittencal,
When I do a search on Recipezaar and one of your recipes pop up, it’s the one I try!!! You do a great job experimenting and making up the best recipes.
I just want to thank you – I also always try your recipes because I have great success with them. I made your sugar cookies and icing with my 2 young boys and they are fabulous – I will proudly disperse them to friends and neighbours (if I can stop eating them…). Thanks again and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I have used Recipezaar for years, and only found out today that you’d left! This is similar to so many other comments, but I figured out that if I wanted to make something, if your recipe came up, it would be the best. Made one of the simpler ones just the other day, Italian Melt-In-Your-Mouth Meatballs. People think I’m a pretty good cook, but I give the credit to you. I hope you keep them coming!
So glad to have found you on here! I too just found out today that you were no longer posting on RZ when I made your delish spicy and sweet potatos today! Where can I get my hands on a cookbook of yours? I’m extremely interested and would buy it in a heartbeat!!! Love your recipes. God bless!
I just want to let you know your recipes are awesome!!!! If and when your cookbook comes out remember me. I would love to buy a copy or two. Have a great day.
Cindy
Just wanted to wish you well! I Love many of your recipes!
